How to use Flash applications with Visual Site Designer

With the release of our recent Flash based software, we have had many users asking if they can use them in conjunction with VisualSite Designer (VSD). We have decided to provide you with a tutorial on how it is accomplished. The general process is the same for all the programs.

You will need both applications open at the same time. You may also want to print this page out, or open a new window, and view the video tutorial available.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to add a flash object to the VNU file.

  1. Create and save the flash within its application (Form Builder/Photo Gallery/Jukebox/Video Player)
  2. Copy the HTML code to your clipboard
  3. Switch to VisualSite Designer
  4. Open the page where you want the flash to display
  5. Create an HTML object using the HTML tool
  6. Paste the code into the Body HTML tab
  7. Click "OK" on the prompt to begin the Add Files wizard
  8. Click Browse to search for the XML file saved from our other software
  9. Click Finish

Now you can preview the page within VisualSite Designer to view the flash on your page. If the Finish button is not selectable you may have previously added the flash files. You can select Settings > Additional Files > Remove Files, then check each of the flash files within the window and click OK. You can then re-add the files through the Add Files Wizard. Let us know if you have any other questions.

NOTE: If the Flash application uses a PHP script (Form Builder, RSS News Flash, Live Chat, Website Search, or Password Wizard), you may need to login to your server with a ftp client and change the file permissions. See Changing Permissions for instructions.

If you have completed all these steps and you still have trouble, please contact us and send us the URL for the page you are having trouble with.
